In the 2008 the Consoil Conference will be held in Milan, Italy.
Italy is politically divided in 20 Regions, Milan is the 'capital' of Lombardy, the biggest of all the Italian Regions.
Every Region is divided in 'Provincie', the number of which depends on the dimension of the Region and on the presence of big cities/towns, which give the name to the Province itself.
The Provincia of Milano is divided in 189 municipalities, at the centre of which there is the city of Milan. Its territory is of about 2.000 Km2, with a population of nearly 4.000.000 inhabitants.
Provincia of Milano is also a local institution of significant national importance and has the ambition to become a role model for all the other Italian provinces.
In particular, the Provincia of Milano's duties in the vast, strategic areas of environment and energy, require great efforts but also lead to great results.
The ongoing change, from an industrial structure to one of services for the provincial productive system, requires that the Chief of the Environment department and all the members of the provincial Govern, be the principle protagonists, conforming with their duties, in the grounds' protection, especially regarding the brownfields remediation process that recuperates those fields for commercial use and for the enjoyment of the public.
To reach these purposes, it can count also on the presence of an academic system of international level in Milan, represented by the Polytechnic and by public and private universities in every area of scientific and technological research, as well as on the biggest European brand new exhibition centre (located in the town of Rho, NW of Milano), numerous road connections, three subway lines and on a very developed public transport network.
